From 17 to 19 June 2026, LABION took part in ETPN2026, the 21st Annual Event of the European Technology Platform on Nanomedicine, held in Dublin and hosted by RCSI University. As Europe’s conference dedicated to nanomedicine, the congress brought together researchers, clinicians, technology developers, and industry to connect science, clinical needs, and innovation.
Our group contributed with two presentations, both in the Medical Devices session.
Post-doctoral researcher Valentina Mangolini gave an oral presentation sharing the preliminary results of the MINERVA project. Her talk focused on the use of Raman spectroscopy of salivary extracellular vesicles to stratify patients with Parkinson’s disease, atypical parkinsonisms, and REM sleep behaviour disorder. This is a minimally invasive approach designed to support the differential diagnosis of these clinically overlapping disorders.
PhD student Luana Forleo delivered an oral presentation on our recently published study in Translational Stroke Research, showing that circulating extracellular vesicles, profiled through a multiplexed biosensor (Surface Plasmon Resonance imaging), can help predict functional recovery after stroke rehabilitation. She also presented a poster with the latest data from the SANDY project, in which saliva is analysed with a portable Raman device to stratify neurodegenerative diseases — an approach that has now been patented, marking an important step toward clinical translation. Beyond the science, ETPN2026 was also a valuable opportunity to connect. We reconnected with collaborators and former colleagues, caught up with friends from across the nanomedicine community, and met new people whose work and ideas may well shape future collaborations.
Moments like these reflect the vision that drives our group: staying close to the needs of the clinician and supporting them with nanomedicine and innovative biophotonic technologies and nanomedicine.
